Power of Attorney
A Power of Attorney is a document empowering another person to act and sign official documents on your behalf. It is important the power of attorney fulfils the demands of the authority that is requiring the document.
There are two types of power of attorney:
A) Private Power of Attorney
B) Public Power of Attorney
A) Private Power of Attorney
Non-Brazilian citizens, who do not hold a valid RNE card ("Registro Nacional de Estrangeiros"), may only draw a Private power of attorney. This document must be drawn by a Notary Public in New Zealand.
The signature of the applicant must also be authenticated by the Notary Public, who should include their full name and city in which they practice.
Once authenticated by a Notary Public, the document may handed into the Embassy for legalisation, along with a self-addressed pre-paid courier bag (if it cannot be collected in person) and the consular fee (see Methods of Payment).

Processing Time:
For applications received through the post: fifteen (15) working days

Once legalized, the document should be translated into Portuguese by an accredited translator in Brazil, and lodged at a "Cartório" (Notary Public).
