Information for Investors

A Permanent Residence Visa may be granted to foreign citizens who invest a minimum of R$ 150,000.00 (one hundred and fifty thousand Brazilian Reais) in Brazil, upon approval of the applicant’s (or their representative’s) direct request to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, or one of its regional offices in Brazil.
Permanent Visa for Investors
Visas for foreign investors and executives are to be filed in Brazil by the applicant or their duly empowered representatives with the appropriate federal authorities or with a free-trade zone's immigration council, when funds are to be invested in such zones.
The following are the basic requirements in applying for this visa:
- copies of the applicant's personal and professional identification documents and those pertaining to dependents, if any;
- power of attorney to a representative prepared at a public notary's office;
- a recent transcript of the applicant's résumé;
- for investors, an investment plan in a new business or in the expansion of an existing one (with a copy of its social charter, license to operate and proof of tax compliance), including an initial transfer of a minimum of US$50,000.00 and a commitment to employ Brazilian work force;
- foreign capital investment permit issued by the Brazilian Central Bank;
- Work permits for senior executives and validation of their work contracts by the labor authorities.
Once the visa application has been authorized by the authorities in Brazil, the Embassy of Brazil will receive notification. Once we have received this authorization, the applicant may present the following supporting documents in order to receive their visa in their passport:
Visa Application Form
The Visa Application form must be filled out online at http://scedv.serpro.gov.br. Once filled out and submitted, your online application form will be valid for thirty (30) days. After this period your online form will no longer be valid and it will be necessary to complete a new one.
Instructions:
- Click “Visa Request”
- Read the instructions
- Fill out the form as accurately and completely as possible
- Click “Submit” to receive your application number and receipt
- Print the Visa Form Delivery Receipt (Recibo de Entrega de Requerimento)
- Attach one passport sized photo, according to the photo requirements
- Sign the receipt in the square at the bottom of the form
- Either photocopy the receipt or write down the application number (protocolo número) and keep in a safe place (can be used to check at which stage of processing your application is at; see Processing Time
- Send the duly completed and signed receipt to the Embassy of Brazil together with the required documentation (below);
Required Documents:
- A valid passport with at least six (6) months validity remaining, and at least four (4) blank pages;
- A valid International Yellow Fever vaccination certificate – please see Vaccination;
- If the passport cannot be picked up in person, a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of the passport should be included. NB. A mail/courier service that provides a tracking number is strongly recommended – please keep a copy of the tracking number.

An additional fee is incurred when the passport submitted for the issuance of a visa is not delivered by the applicant themselves or duly authorised immediate family member. Processing Time
To see at what stage of processing your visa application is at, go to http://scedv.serpro.gov.br
- Click “Check Visa”
- Fill in the form (the application number (protocolo número) can be seen on the application receipt (Recibo de Entrega de Requerimento))
- Click “Search”
N.B. If the online application form is not filled out by the applicant themselves, the processing time will be up to thirty (30) days. Otherwise, it is approximately fifteen (15) working days, counted from the receipt of the complete documentation.
Further Information
- Applications will only be accepted if all required documents are presented. Incomplete applications will not accepted.
- It is possible to alter your online visa application. Go to http://scedv.serpro.gov.br and click “Update Visa Request Form”. Fill out the form and click “Search”. You can then alter your application form. Click “Submit” and then follow instructions as above.
- Once your online visa application form has been submitted, it is possible to hand in the rest of the documentation and apply for the visa in any Brazilian Consular Representation. Your online form will be valid for thirty (30) days.
- You must enter Brazil within 90 days from the date your visa was issued; otherwise that visa will no longer be valid;
- Please note that the Consulate DOES NOT ISSUE SAME DAY VISAS, unless in case of a documented medical emergency.
